You don’t have to be in a crowd, or even stroll along the Truckee River, to imbibe at this year’s Artown wine and art event.
The district that revitalized downtown Reno has had to skip its biggest in-person fund-raiser of the year thanks to the pandemic,. But the popular Vine-Gogh Wine Walk, a staple of the annual Artown festival, lives on in cyberspace as the July Virtual Wine “Lock.” Tickets to the event are on sale until Friday, July 17, for the virtual event Saturday, July 18, between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.
The Riverwalk Merchants Association, made up of more than 75 small businesses along the Truckee River and neighboring streets, sponsors the event. Funds raised will go towards helping its members during the current crisis, supporting the arts, and investing in the district’s beautification program. To date, the Riverwalk has raised more than $100,000 from proceeds donated to local non-profit groups who are working to improve the Riverwalk District, distributed in $500 grant awards each month.
Nellie Davis, of the merchant’s association, said the event is crucial to the Riverwalk’s fundraising efforts. She said participants will receive a “mystery bag” full of wine, a wine glass ready for do-it-yourself decorating, and an invitation to a virtual wine tour and contests online Saturday. “You can pickup the mystery bag on event day, then share what you get online,” Davis said. “Enjoy your mystery bag at home , or online with friends.”

Admission tickets to the Wine Lock event are $40 and available online Mystery bags are a more than $100 value and contain wine, beer and more than $50 of promotional discounts from local merchants and businesses. The mystery bags can be picked up on event day at Outsiders Hair Studio, 18 Winter St, B, in downtown Reno. Valid over-21 identification is required.
Wine Lock is scheduled from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. Saturday, July 18 as Facebook event and participants sign on to the Wine Lock event page. The mystery bag contents include: two bottles of wine, a blank wine walk glass for DIY decorating, a #TogetherWeAreOneheart wristband to support first responders, a can of beer from the Brewer’s Cabinet and more than $50 of promotions and offers from downtown merchants.
