Sparks has lots of businesses worth a taste, a try, a visit. Some are new. Some are simply not well-known. Some are old favorites that shouldn’t be forgotten amid change. And all could use a boost as the Rail City emerges from the pandemic.
That’s the thinking behind Secret Sparks, a just-launched program to encourage folks to shop at Sparks businesses, especially smaller businesses. The program provides discounts and coupons for products and services.
Folks can sign up here to receive offers from Secret Sparks; sign up here to receive offers from Joyas de Sparks, the Spanish-language version of the program; or scan the QR code of the initiative at participating businesses.
Don’t live in Sparks? Stop by!
Secret Sparks is a collaboration between Yelp and several local advertising, marketing, public relations and videography firms, with support from the City of Sparks.
“We are urging people to shop local and spend local. We’re asking people who don’t live in Sparks to come and see what Sparks has to offer,” said Dian VanderWell, a member of the Sparks City Council and a longtime advocate for small businesses.
Craft beer, classic drive-in, ice cream
Food and drink deals lead off Secret Sparks.
The first is from Revision Brewing Company, known for its hoppy beers and huge haul of awards. After that, look for offers from Scoopers Drive-In, a Rail City mainstay with dozens of milkshake flavors, and from Paleteria del Angel, a traditional Mexican ice cream shop on Baring Boulevard.
Organizers of Secret Sparks say they will bring aboard offers from other small businesses. Incentives are good for a limited time while supplies last.
